Slow to Blog lately…

I know I know, it’s been a while since I blogged. I’m sorry, I really am. Life happened, new job happened, and anxiety happened.

I’m about to get real with you. Earlier this year, my anxiety got out of control. It was controlling my life, my emotions, causing problems with my relationships and it got to the point where I was having anxiety attacks daily. Mental health has always been a thing I emphasize to everyone to take care of. It’s incredibly important to go to the doctor to get checkups but its also incredibly important to get mental health checkups.

One thing I want to point out is that I have been in therapy for the past couple of years. I am never afraid to admit to it. But one thing I was afraid to accept was that taking medication is ok. I thought it a faux pas as I never wanted to rely on medicine for anything. I had to take Ritalin as a kid and I hated it. So part of me swore never to rely on medicine that could alter the chemicals in your brain. Do I have problems taking Advil, or medicine when sick or taking birth control to regulate? NO! I don’t that’s the funny part. It took me having an anxiety attack day after day to finally admit that I might need medicinal help. But it also took me talking to some of my best friends who take medicine to convince me it’s not all that bad.

SO I made an appointment with a psychiatrist and she prescribed me medicine to begin taking. It changed my life. My anxiety is at bay, I can control my emotions and I can observe situations so much more. I am so much happier and I can say that taking medicine is not a bad thing. There is a stigma around mental health, there is a stigma around taking medicine. I was always one to try a destigmatize mental health, but I let the stigma of medicine prevent me from getting more help.

So with that said, what have I been up to since the beginning of the year? I got a new job that I love, I helped a friend with her new business by fitness modeling, I got certified to be a triathlon coach (so if you are interested please reach out to me!) and I put together a half marathon training program for beginners! If you are interested in purchasing you can visit this link: Hayes Half Marathon Method

I will be writing up my blog posts from the races I have done since the beginning of the year, but I want to say thank you. For still coming back, for reading and for understanding that it is ok to not be ok.
