Blast is a 60 minute HIIT workout. But it’s not your typical 30 minutes on the treadmill, 30 minutes on the floor type of workout. Oh no! The class was designed to make sure you get your heart rate up by doing blocks of anywhere from 2-15 minutes on the treadmill and then immediately transitioning and doing the same time blocks on the floor. This way you can build up your endurance, V02 and heart rate levels while also not being incredibly bored running on the treadmill for 30 minutes straight.
Blast created their workouts to make sure you are getting as much out of the 60 minutes as humanly possible. This means that each class comes with an assistant to help refill your water rather than you taking long breaks to the fountain, bringing you lighter or heavier weight and also helping with form or alternative moves if the instructor is on the other side of the room.
The treadmills are insane! They go up to a 30% incline and you will use it in each class. They call is the Blast 30 and it is awesome and kicks your butt at the same time. The one thing I did enjoy about the treadmill sets was that there are three different intensity levels: Runner, Jogger, and Walker so if you are too nervous about going full on run, then take it down a notch. You will never feel forced to run to go beyond your means if you are not ready for it.
What sets Blast apart from other HIIT studios or workouts is that they provide you with so much more. This means that the studio offers VO2 testing as well as having an on-site nutritionist to help you with your eating habits and change. The V02 testing, in my opinion, is critical to do because they will finally understand what heart rate levels means for you and at what point you stop burning fat and start burning sugar. If you sign up for the full testing, you will get all of this done plus your body fat percentage and measurements.
But during this testing you will get hooked up to this device on the right and the tester will increase your speeds and inclines until you tap out. For me, when I got my test done, my heart rate number ended up with 176 which means that is where I stop burning fat. So whenever I do my workouts, I wear my heart rate monitor and can see how fast and high I can go before it gets real high. If I am focusing on a fat burning workout, I stay below that number the whole time. Knowing this information can really help anyone who needs to pay attention to their heart rate zones and for getting the most out of your workout.
The studio is currently having deals on membership, in particular, the unlimited monthly for $199, the 3 pack for $75 and the Trifecta for $349 which includes your profile testing, a meeting with the nutritionist and 8 classes.
I am loving the Blast life and it has definitely helped me with improving my running, especially for my races. If you are looking to improve your endurance, strength and become a better runner, then check out Blast in West End.
